Safety Tips for Handling Fireworks for the 4th of July

Before you light fireworks for the 4th of July, make sure to read over the safety tips to ensure the safety of you and others.

The 4th of July is that one time of the year when the entire community comes together to celebrate the Independence of America. It’s time to show your patriotic spirit, so grab your red, white and blue and celebrate. One of the traditional ways to celebrate the 4th of July is with fireworks. Whether you plan to host a 4th of July barbecue or going to one near your Irvine apartment, you are going to want to light a few fireworks. When you do, make sure you keep these safety tips for handling fireworks in the back of your mind.

  • Always read and follow label directions
  • Always have an adult present
  • Only buy from reliable fireworks sellers
  • Only ignite fireworks outdoors
  • Be sure to have water handy
  • Never experiment or attempt to make your own fireworks
  • Light only one at a time
  • Never re-ignite malfunctioning fireworks
  • Never give fireworks to small children
  • Store fireworks in a cool, dry place
  • Dispose of fireworks properly
  • Never throw fireworks at another person
  • Never carry fireworks in your pocket
  • Never shoot fireworks in metal or glass containers

Use these tips when you get ready to light your fireworks, and have a safe, fun 4th of July!
